Work verses Labour

Work Versus Labour

Its Monday morning, you can expect a mad rush in every metropolitan city all over the world. Man sets out to go heck out a living.

He has no one else to depend on including God but self. The arms of his flesh must be all he has to feed him. Out of his sweat he feeds until he returns to the earth from where he was brought.

His travail is wrapped in vanity. His mind having alienated God is filled with nothing but vanity, all his knowledge is for the vanities of life. A sister said sometime ago asking if the vanities of life are removed from a person's life what would be left? Most will have nothing left.

Apostle James said in chapter 4 of his epistle, verses 1-4...

He asked where our wars come from, and answered that they come from our lusts. We fight...all manners of market competitions, all manners of office bickerings and jealousy, all manners of evil maneuvering to pull those above down and to keep those under never to grow. The struggles to be above others on the pecking order, and to be above all on the corporate ladder...the fight to maintain position.

The weapons of war could be anything! Guns, sex, bribes, slander, blackmail, and so on...that's how it goes...

Yet we do not get just because we don't ask God. And when we ask God, we ask so that we can feed our greed, covetousness and excesses to win the competition!

But God doesn't feed our greed and lusts and so as much as people do all sorts to seek God to feed these demons, He remains far away, He won't be part of the competitions we put ourselves in.

This is labor! It is what the psalmist said, it is in vain to wake up early and sleep late, and eat the bread of sorrow since God gives His beloved even when he sleeps.

Labor began at the fall of man in the garden. Man lost purpose and had to sweat to sustain himself. The earth would not yield to man anymore, he will have to pay with his strength and his health daily till his death! Genesis 3.

But before then, he worked as God worked! He pursued the purpose of God creating him and God provided for him.

Work is pursuit of purpose. Labor is pursuit of sustenance.

Work gets God involved, God is our partner in the pursuit of purpose.

Labor is trying to do what God should do without his involvement and without His principles. Labor comes out of fear and it pushes to do anything to get by. Labor says the end justifies the means...

Work partners with God to get His purpose fulfilled. We are designed and equipped to work in pursuit of divine purpose and plans for the world.

And our sustenance as we pursue that purpose is guaranteed by faith in God.

Look around and see the providence of God, all provided to bring us to the place where we pursue His purpose.

But the selfishness in man won't let him think that the resources of the earth, the sun, air, energy and so on were put there for an ultimate purpose...they help us to achieve the reasons why God put us here...

God is responsible if we pursue purpose. He gives daily bread, provides security, and gives sound health...He knows we have need of these things...

So Jesus said, we need not worry how they come, instead we should come to him all of us laboring and are heavy laden, learn of Him and receive rest.

His own yoke is not like the yoke of labor, it is the yoke of work in pursuit of divine purpose and the yoke is easy!

His own burden isn't like the burden of labor, it is the burden of pursuit of purpose and this burden is light!

In the pursuit of His purpose we don't compete, we compliment!

In the pursuit of purpose there's no pecking order, we are yoke fellows!

In the pursuit of purpose we don't outwit each other, we are a team working together to achieve same purpose!

We seek the kingdom of God together both at the market place or in the church of the living God!

We need not cheat, or become corrupt in working with God behind that secular desk you sit, you need not cheat your customers in pursuit of the Kingdom of God...

It isn't your labor that sustains you but your God. You aren't working for any man or a corporate body but for God.

You are Christ's representative on that your 'secular' job and your pay comes from Him and not from your paycheck!

Take on the easy yoke, carry the light burden, seek the kingdom, share the love of Jesus, tell of His coming kingdom and put a smile on someone through what you do...

God will take responsibility of your sustenance and establish you in the garden He planted for you...

It isn't just about making money which can fly away, it is about pursuing the reason why you were made and seeking the kingdom with your potentials...

May God give us understanding!

Good Morning!
