New Year Resolutions

New Year Resolution

Times and seasons are part of the strategy God put in place to manage the world and those within it. Every season is expected to have its fruit and so we plow in hope expecting to harvest the fruit.

Part of the plowing is to set in place visions and dreams. We want to get better in our endeavors and also get better renumeration and so move forward in whatever we do in the new season. So we plan and pray expecting new strength and wisdom to do better and achieve more.

And we have promises to that effect, the path of the just is as a shining light of the sun shining more and more to the perfect day and we need to ride on the back of such promises to make the most of every season.

It is also quite commendable that people desire to work better on their characters. People desire to get better in conduct somewhere from within them but are they ready to do all it takes to get better?

When it comes to living righteously above sin in holiness, godliness and Christ likeness, no person has the capacity within him or her to do so. Mere determination and strong will aren't strong enough to attain to the lifestyle that pleases God.

Christ came because it was not possible to please God under the former covenant and had to shed His blood and died so that our sins could be totally washed away and create the channel for mankind to get back to God. In accepting that arrangement the Holy Spirit is given to us to make sure we do not revert back into that lethargy of disconnect with God.

Now we are here and man is free to yield to God to enjoy His provision. The question is if we would yield. It is in yielding to the Holy Spirit and His leading as He orders our steps that we enjoy victory over sin.

To whom we yield our members to obey, to such we are servants...yielding to the Holy Spirit we become instruments of righteousness unto Holiness. We can't be holy by our own strength, how can we pass God's exam without Him? If we could do it, the new covenant wouldn't be needed: the working of the new covenant puts the Holy Spirit in the centre of it all...working closely with the recreated spirits within us, writing His laws upon the tables of our hearts and waiting for us to follow as He leads... And so we are no more indebted to the flesh to live after the flesh...since the Holy Spirit is quickening our mortal bodies already presented in total submission to Him...

The believer must therefore seek to understand what it takes to be totally yielded. We must deal with that cockiness that makes us think God must always do our bidding or that we can do as we like while God manages whatever waste we produce and leave behind us in 'love'.

This is a new year, and as usual people are making resolutions and casting visions out of their utmost desires and hope. Meanwhile in all these God hardly had a say as we seek  Him in fasting and praying that He does what we want when we hadn't asked Him what He want neither ready to do whatever He wants.

We must be clear about this, that we can't effect necessary positive changes in our lives without seeking to submit totally to God. We can't achieve what God desires except we desire and seek Him for what He wants and them pursue that.

Let's seek a relationship with the Holy Spirit whereby we give Him the room to do all that God has given Him to us to do...

If we yield... He won't disappoint!

As we make new year resolutions we need to factor God into our hopes.... Without Him at the driver's seat whatever resolution remains as fickle as they'd always been... They'll fizzle away only for us to start afresh with other wishes this time next year....
