Responding to Present Economic State

Responding to Present Economic State

The state of the economy is one thing that affects everyone, having the capacity to upstage people's faith in God. I saw a post yesterday saying though the prices of commodities are going higher yet tithe is still 10% and the wages of sin is still death. I'm sure whoever coined that knew that to many the first thing to be deleted on the scale of preference of many people's spending are those spendings that don't physically add anything to us personally. Our commitment to God and to other people's welfare will be the first to be expunged out of the budget.

That underscores our response to hardship and economic downturn.

We read of how different people responded to hardship in scriptures. We read of those in Samaria who resulted to eating dung and those who were eating their children.

We saw how people sold all they had and even themselves to slavery in the days of Joseph in Egypt. Genesis 47

We saw in the days of Naomi, how people migrated to greener pastures and many died there. Ruth 1

We also saw how Joseph managed the situation in favor of Pharaoh in the days of famine in Egypt.

We saw the widow of Zarephath, who saved herself and her only son by giving even in the days of severe famine their supposed last meal. 1Kings 17

We saw Jesus in the days when money failed after three days retreat and all available were 2 fishes and 5 loaves of bread with the easier option of sending the fainting people home. After all, nobody would blame Him for not feeding those who came to listen to His messages. Matthew 14

The bottom line here is that it all depends on how much of Joseph, that widow or Christ we are able to clone.

We may be like those who mismanaged scarce resources in the days of plenty and so had to sell themselves up in the days of famine in Egypt.

We may also be as those who didn't listen to God before running to Moab and so died there before God's visitation.

Others won't mind cooking and eating their own fruits to stay alive, after all, it's survival of the fittest.

Others will hide whatever they have for same reason thinking it's bad management to give what's not even enough for self.

But we'll do well if we can be like Joseph, employ the best financial and material management strategies. This isn't the time for luxury, it isn't the time for impulse buying, it isn't the time for prestige and social competitive spending. This is not the time for wastages, don't waste food, don't waste water, don't waste fuel, don't waste electricity, don't waste money, don't waste time and energy. This is the time to gather the remnants, let nothing be lost. This isn't the time to love pleasure, wine and oil that makes people poor... Proverbs 21:17

This is the time to show compassion and give. This is the time to share and not to deprive others of the little they may have. This isn't the time to 'cook and eat your children' as the women in Samaria in the days of Elisha, this is the day to make sacrifices to help those vulnerable around us. Give the hungry, either a man of God or a sinner. Help the homeless, the jobless, the employed who's not better than unemployed. Share your 2 fishes and 5 loaves and see Christ multiply it.

This is the time not to send people away hungry even when you don't have like Jesus. It is the time to engage our connections with God and anointing through faith for the miraculous. It is the time to use our advantages to support the weak.

If you have two give one to him who have none...such is the time we are now. If you are truly a disciple of Christ, this is the time the world will know. [My Offline Bible] Luke 3
11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

The king of Israel in Samaria in the days of Elisha engaged the prophet Elisha and Elisha responded and things turned around in favor of the nation. It's time to engage our connection with God for the sake of our land. 1Kings 7

Lift up the little available and give thanks to God for it. Believe God for a multiplication of the little and you'll see the same miracle even if not as literal as that of Christ.

This we must do till the siege is over and what's today expensive will become plenty this time tomorrow in Jesus name.

Our visitation is nearer than we can imagine but this bridge we must first cross!

Happy new day! Good morning!
