Fit for and fitted into the Kingdom
One man came to Jesus and said, 'Lord, I will follow you, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.
But Jesus said to him, 'No one, having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God' Luke 9:61&62
There's a kind of attitudinal fitness that the kingdom of God requires from those who are seeking the kingdom.
Here the Lord Jesus Christ laid bare the major attitudinal foundation the kingdom requires which is total commitment and dedication to God and His will.
The man here had what today would even be called legitimate reason to postpone his commitment to the kingdom just as others in the passage, but it Jesus considered that as putting your hand on the plow and still looking back. Ordinarily, if you do that on the farm you mess up the job.
Each of us need to consider where we have been looking back with our hands on the plow! Legitimate socially expected demands that take our eyes off the demands of the kingdom.
The simple definition of what the kingdom represents is that space or domain where the will of God is done absolutely! Where Christ must reign with all His enemies made His footstool.
Therefore, looking back would mean the distraction that seeking socially acceptable positions bring. Wanting to please self and others while we seek the kingdom of God. Trying to pursue ambitions that don't reflect the perfect will of God while we look occupied with kingdom matters...
Our total submission to the Lordship of Jesus and the leading of His Word and Spirit towards living in the centre of God's will is needed to prove our fitness for the kingdom!
And then again, we can be fitted into God's kingdom. Being fitted means we have our different places in the kingdom. Plows are fitted into each hand. Each plow is customised to each customised hand to produce particular expectations of God. The hand is made for the plow and the plow is made for the hand...and when we put our hands on a plow, it must be exactly the plow made for us, to do and produce exactly what the King made us for!
It won't be in line with the culture of the kingdom to jump from plow to plow according to what attracts more attention, money or accolades of men...
There's a fitted place for each one in the kingdom and in the spirit of the kingdom each must remain wherein he or she has been called...the focus is to do the will of God and nothing else...that way we solidify our position in the kingdom of God!
[My Offline Bible] 1 Corinthians 7
20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called. 24 Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
We aren't seeking a kingdom where the society or our aspirations are kings but where God is king and Jesus is Lord and His will is done!
Stay fit for the kingdom and be fitted into the place prepared for you from the foundation of the world no matter how popular or unpopular! Please God and do His will alone!
