It is Finished!

It is Finished!

[My Offline Bible] John 19
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

What does the phrase 'It is finished' mean? What was He referring to as 'it'? What does the finishing of that thing mean?

It sure didn't mean we are finished. It didn't mean He was finished too. But whatever was finished was ready to be delivered. Whatever He meant went through a process that just ended.

The fundamental thing that He could be referring to would be the purpose for which He had come into the world.

He had come to save sinners. He had come to pay the price for the total salvation of mankind.

The work had gone through different phases and seasons. His conception and birth was one, His declaration as the son of God going about His Father's business at age 12, His encounter at the baptism of John and the announcement, His wilderness temptation, His return with power to preach, teach and do good in signs and wonders ...and then His arrest, trial and crucifixion...
And now the work is done and so the announcement came and it was all over!

The job on this side of heaven is done and the reconciliation between God and man has been made perfect...man is saved and he can now walk in the newness of life. Sin and Satan would not master him anymore, his sins are pardoned, the enmity is gone and he has now become a friend of God as it was originally designed!

Man can now have a seamless relationship with God without another sacrifice, he can relate with God without any other special preparation...the middle wall of partition between us and God is gone, man is reconciled with God!

The process of man's healing, health and longevity was finished. He had paid the price for us to be healed by the stripes He took and His body that was broken and as His body was drained of life, ours that was dead in Adam soaks in the life...to maintain health and swallow death in victory.

He died so that He could destroy Him who had the power of death, that is the devil. And not only that, He also died so that we can live and live life abundantly...He died young that we may live long...abundant life is life overflowing, it is life in the long and full mode...

He died violently too so that we can peacefully depart when we had finished our work and are satisfied with long life here on the earth...

The process of destroying him who had the power of death, who came to steal, to kill and to destroy was complete! It is finished!

Why should a child of God now contemplate dying anytime? When the power, authority, the keys of hell and of death isn't with the devil anymore but with the Christ!?

[My Offline Bible] Revelation 1
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Our deal with poverty, lack and want is finished. All He had was taken away from Him and He became naked just as He was born into the world without anything on as He paid the price for our prosperity. If He bacame poor so that we may through His poverty become rich and afterwards announced that it is finished, then the ground should no longer bring us thorns and thistles...but riches and wealth...

We can go on and on talking about the riches of His grace as the result of the finished work on the cross at Calvary but the devil won't desist from his lies...

Satan wants to tell you that what was finished at Calvary is even yet to begin! He'll throw every tantrum to make us lose faith in that good news, 'It is Finished!'

But whose report would you believe? The report of your struggle with sin and bad habits? Or the report that the price for your dominion over sin is paid?
Will you believe the report that the price for our forgiveness and remission of our sins are paid and finished or that God is still paying you back for what you did wrong in time past?

Would you rather believe in the pains, sicknesses and diseases troubling you than believe you are healed by His stripes?

Would you rather believe that you have been made rich or believe in the situation threatening your finances?

Or would you believe your finances are at the mercies of the world economy, corruption and bad management that sponsor poverty or that Jesus had paid the price for our prosperity? Would you rather believe that Jesus didn't finish paying the price for our prosperity?

Invariably, we are the ones who will actualize the riches of His grace in our lives by either accepting that 'It is finished' or not.

The question is that is it finished or not? I choose to believe Jesus...I believe it is finished and in that I rejoice!
